Kelly Clarkson, James taylor and Beyonce performed. Jay-Z and Eva Longoria were on the stand while Katy Perry and John Mayer were in the crowd.
Some celebrities who weren't in attendance took to Twitter to mark the event.
Alicia Keys called it a powerful day, and said "may we all take these powerful strides and continue moving forward."
Neil Patrick Harris called the president's speech "brilliant" and said "I'm very proud to be an American."
And Bette Midler said beyonce sang "beautifully."
"American Idol" alum Danny Gokey is a new dad.
The season eight finalist and his wife welcomed a son Sunday, according to People.com.
In a statement, he told people, "I'm ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with."
The boy was named Daniel Emanuel.
Gokey and his wife were married on January 29th last year.
