Rob's Winners and Losers - Week of January 25, 2013

By: Rob Evans
Updated: January 25, 2013
It's time for winners and losers.  It's our weekly segment where we take a look back, and let you know who we think shined... and who should be shunned.

Let's start with a winner..
This kid, for surviving this scary accident
Watch as a light fixture comes crashing down on this high school wrestler during a match...
Michael McComish was smacked by 80 pounds of heavy aluminum spotlights.
But walked away with just a handful of stitches on his head.

Winner... ladies!
The New Kids On The Block have announced they're hitting the road for a U.S. tour with 98-Degrees and Boyz II Men.
The tour follows NKOTB's release of it's first album in more than four years.
Get your tickets now, Shannon and Chris. The tour kicks off May 31 in Connecticut.

Another winner...
This family in Maryland.
The kids asked dad for a new puppy. He said, you get a million likes on Facebook, you get a puppy.
Guess what?
Less than 6 hours later, dad was on his way to a no-kill animal shelter.
They adopted what they think is a lab/shepard mix named Millie.
Dad says, hey, kids.. don't even try this again when you're 16 and want a new car.

Time now for some losers.
And we start with a horrible job of reporting.
The story that exploded over the internet this week said a Harvard professor was looking to bring back the Neanderthals... and was looking for an 'adventurous' woman be the surrogate mother.
George Church is the professor. He helped pioneer the human genome project..
But he says he's not working on anything.
He says his original interview was published in a German magazine, and it was poorly translated..

We all lose on this one.  The greatest St. Louis Cardinal of all time, Stan Musial, died last weekend.
He was 92
"The man" as he was known spent his entire 22 year career with St. Louis, and was a 24-time All Star.
He also earned the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, the highest honor possible to a civilian.

Loser.... rumors going around that Beyonce lip-synched her inaugural performance.
A spokeswoman for the Marine Corps says the pop icon was not singing live.
The marines later released another statement saying "no one is in a position to judge whether it was live or pre-recorded."
She's not the first to do that on a big stage. The late Whitney Houston lip synched the 1991 Super Bowl.
And remember Millie Vanilli?  They made a career out of it!
