Progress on a new jail in Taney County is moving along, with next May as the target deadline for the facility to open in Forsyth.
Voters approved an eighth cent sales tax last year to pay for the new judicial center.
Many residents and local officials say it's something the county desperately needs, since the old jail is cramped and there isn't much office space.
Many also believe it will improve the safety of the area.
"One of the things at the top of the list is security, the way we're set up now security is not the way we'd like," notes Chuck Pennel, Taney County Commissioner.
Two people escaped from the current jail in Forsyth in March. They were later caught.
When complete, the new facility will be able to hold 266 inmates.
