Health Concern For Monett Girls Basketball Players After Prank

MONETT, Mo. -- Parents and some basketball players in Monett are learning about a prank that could lead to potential health risks.

The prank happened during a girls basketball game on February 4 in Cassville. Cassville School Administrators say they just learned this week that four of their players urinated in a cup and poured the urine into a drinking cooler used by the Monett Lady Cubs.

The administrators notified Monett School District, which immediately notified the players and their parents. Principal David Steward sent a letter to parents concerning any potential health risk.

"We have been working throughout the day to determine if any health risks may be present due to the nature of this prank," he wrote in a statement Friday.

The school has also contacted local physicians who have contacted the infectious disease department at Cox South Hospital.

The Cassville students have confessed to the prank and health officials are testing their urine samples.

"We understand that all of us in Monett are angered and frustrated by this occurrence and the amount of time before the incident came to light," wrote Steward. "We encourage you to support our stance that retaliation in any way stoops to the level of the offense committed against us and is counter productive."

Cassville Administrators also sent letters out and say they have disciplined the players involved, however they will not discuss it.

Monett School Administrators, the players, and their parents will meet with the health department next week.

Hey get the facts straight! This story is BAD enough without misinterpreting the facts. The urine from only one of the cups was poured into the cooler. I'm not saying that makes it OK or that I would want myself or my child drinking from it.(that could be the difference of 8 oz versus a quart of urine) I'm just asking that you guys report the facts.

They should be banned from any further games. They should have charges filed on them also. This is a sick prank.
