HOLLISTER, Mo. -- First responders in Taney County got some hands-on experience in school bus rescues.

The Hollister R-V School district recently received a grant for a new school bus, so it donated the old one to the Western Taney County Fire Protection District for a school bus rescue class.

Last Saturday, firefighters learned about school bus construction, techniques to gain access to the interior of the bus, and techniques to extricate students from the bus.

The class is a credited class by the University of Missouri Fire-Rescue Training Institute. Twenty-two firefighters from Western Taney County Fire Protection District, College of the Ozarks Fire Department, Branson Airport Department of Public Safety, Branson Fire Department, and The Southern Stone County Fire Protection District participated in the training.

Asst. Chief James K. Single with the Western Taney County Fire Protection District's Prevention Division says the bus will now be taken to a salvage yard.
