JOPLIN, Mo. -- Administrators with Joplin R-8 approve the purchase of 90 iPads for 8th grade teachers.

The iPads will cost the school board just under $70,000, and will make Joplin schools part of the national organization Project Red, which emphasizes one-on-one learning to prepare students for the future and newer technologies.

"We know a lot of kids have basics down for computers and iPads," says Joplin school board president Randy Steele. "They've already got that technology in their hands and already learning some of it before they walk into the high school level."

The iPads will be available for upcoming 8th graders in the fall.
