Bears Shock Wichita State

The Missouri State Bears opened up the Missouri Valley Baseball Tournament against the League Champions and top-seed Wichita State.


It's been a rough season for the Bears, but they were hoping to pull some upsets at home in the tourney.


The Shockers have won 16 straight games against Missouri State, including the last ten at Hammons Field.


Bears Ross Detwiler with a fingernail problem early, bases loaded and he walks Tyler Weber, that brings home Derek Schemerhorn 1-0.


Schemerhorn would get more in the second, he smokes this past third into left, Dusty Coleman scores it's 2-0.


Later in that second, Damon Sublett singles to right, but the Bears are able to cut down Schemerhorn at the plate.


The Bears would take the momentum and get a run back in the third, Kyle Paul opened the inning with a triple, and then would come home on Ben Carlson's single to right, that makes it 2-1.


Missouri State evened it up in the fifth when Nolan Keane grounds out to second, Ben Carlson scores to make it 2-2.


The Bears scored three more in the sixth and win, 5-2.


In earlier action, Creighton rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Southern Illinois 8-5.


In the second game today third seeded Bradley scored six runs in the third to beat Evansville 8-4.
