SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  We're not approaching a holiday or heavy travel time, but gas prices have jumped.

In Springfield, gas is selling for about $3.29 a gallon at most stations. That's up about 20 cents from a few days ago -- and 40 cents in about ten days.

According to MissouriGasPrices.com, the statewide average is $3.32.

CBS News reports rising crude oil prices, slowing output at refineries that are undergoing maintenance, and low supplies of gasoline are causing the hike.

It's still lower than a year ago, and some analysts predict 2013 will be easier on the wallet than last year.

The U.S. Department of Energy says the nationwide average for a gallon will be around $3.44 this year and ten cents lower in 2014.
