Local artists spent some time on Springfield's Square today showing off their talents.

About 35 crafts people came to the first annual "Paint Out!" on Park Central Square.

The event, hosted by the Regional Arts Council and the Urban Districts Alliance, gives artists a chance to display their works while boosting the culture of downtown Springfield.

Jeanie Morris of the Springfield Regional Arts Council says, "there's something about getting paint32007-05-19-1179616845.jpgtogether with other people and creating art that's really fun. Also, people love to watch people creating art. We have people just strolling through, buying art, talking with the artists. Maybe by visiting with an artist they'll be encouraged to take it up themselves."

Not only could artists sell their works right on the street today, there were also cash prizes awarded for best pieces produced on site.
