Snow and Ice Shut Down Roads, Schools in NW Arkansas

FLIPPIN, Ark. -- Snow is falling across parts of the northern Arkansas and southern Missouri this afternoon, and it's causing some roads to close.

Light accumulations of up to an inch of snowfall will be possible, according to the National Weather Service, with locally higher amounts possible at higher elevations. Ice is a problem farther south.
A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for parts of northeast Arkansas until 6 p.m. Some of the cities impacted were Mountain View, Searcy, Ash Flat, Horseshoe Bend and Fairfield Bay.
An Ice Storm Warning wasalso issued for areas farther south in central and central-east Arkansas. Many schools in central Arkansas dismissed early because of ice and snow.
Meanwhile, the Marion County Sheriff's Office is asking drivers stay off the roads if possible and use extreme caution if you must drive anywhere.
Many roads, including areas along Highway 14, 62 and 235 have been temporarily shut down due to several weather related accidents.
