SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- First of all, happy new year I
hope one of your resolutions is to get out more and support local music, and
right off the bat you have that chance.
Friday night at Patton Alley Pub,
Deep Fried Squirrel will be playing their own version of bluegrass. The show
starts at 9:30 it is a 21 and up show and will set you back about 5 bucks.
Next up is a post-New Year's Eve
part at Cartoons with Brookline Station. The show starts at 9 p.m. and is only a $5 cover.
Next Saturday you are going to have
to make some tough choices. Really, do you like Johnny Cash's music or do you
like to watch a guy be a one man band?
There is the annual One More Round
tribute show to the music of Johnny Cash. The show starts at 8 p.m. and will set you back 10 bones.
Turns out it's 45 years almost to the day that the Folsom Prison Blues record
was recorded, so it's fitting that one of the bands performing will play this
in its entirety. The bands will be the Deadnettles and also St Dallas and the
Sinners -- both of which are more than capable of making this an awesome night
to remember the music of Johnny Cash.
The other
choice you have for next Saturday is a one man band in the form of Keller
Williams. He will be at the Gillioz Theatre next Saturday starting at 9 p.m. Tickets start at $22.50. Basically
it's just him and his guitar. He uses a series of effect pedals that loop what
he is doing, so he can play a rhythm part, then repeat it, then a lead part,
then repeat it, and then he can improvise over that.
