SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Some Ozarks families will get a meal or two this holiday, courtesy of a local food company.

On Tuesday, Smart Chicken donated 9,000 pounds (341 cases) of frozen chicken to the Ozarks Food Harvest -- a mix of chicken breasts, drumsticks, leg quarters, and thighs. The boxes were delivered to the O'Reilly Center for Hunger Relief.

This is the 10th year for the Feed the Hungry promotion, where Smart Chicken donates one pound for every 10 pounds purchased at local stores.

Ozarks Food Harvest leaders say the donation will provide 7,500 meals to hungry Ozarks families this holiday season.

"Protein-rich food items are at the top of our holiday wish list, so this gift comes at an ideal time for us," said Denise Gibson, development director at Ozarks Food Harvest. "We are thankful for Smart Chicken's continued support of hunger relief here in the Ozarks."

Comments

I had no idea Smart Chicken was a local company. They do have great chicken, its not pumped full of water and hormones.
