For babies, a spoon full of sugar may take some of the pain out of immunization shots.
Researchers in Jordan studied over 1,500 infants 1 month to 1 year old, and found those who got drops of sugar before injections did not cry for as long.
The study indicated sugar may trigger the body to release pain relieving chemicals.
Most of the studies involved immunizations, but some involved any kind of medical intervention using a needle.
The study was published December 11 in the The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
