SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The numbers from last weekend's Cans Film Festival are in, and the Wehrenberg theater in Springfield saw the chain's largest single donation of 700 cans.

The event, which benefits the Tree of Lights Campaign, ran Saturday, December 1, at all Wehrenberg Theatres in Missouri -- including Campbell 16 at 4005 South Avenue.

In total, the festival garnered 330,000 cans at 15 theaters that will stock food pantries.

"To help express our gratitude, we have decided to award a year-long pass in all markets for the largest single donation," says Michael Neuman with Wehrenberg.

A total of 27,750 cans were donated in Springfield. A single donation of five cans allowed moviegoers to get free admission to a show before 5 p.m.

Last year, the Cans Film Festival helped stockpile more than 335,000 canned food items during the one-day event, surpassing the 2010 record of nearly 294,000. In 2011, Campbell 16 gathered nearly 26,000 canned food items.
