Group Recognizes Year's Top Philanthropists in the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It's National Philanthropy Day, and an Ozarks group is giving the ultimate shout-out to people who are changing the world.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Ozarks Region Chapter (AFP Ozarks) recognized outstanding achievements by individuals, foundations and organizations at the 2012 National Philanthropy Day awards presentation Friday. The event was held at Highland Springs Country Club.

AFP Ozarks honors individuals who demonstrate high ethical standards and exemplify the philanthropic spirit of our region.

Dr. Karen Scott of Lost & Found, named Outstanding Child Health Advocate of the Year, said nonprofit organizations are more important now than ever before.

"There are so many people, right now, who need the help of nonprofits. All nonprofits need the help of volunteers and donors who support their work to make life better for the disadvantaged in our community."

AFP Ozarks 2012 Outstanding of the Year Winners:
Philanthropic Media Organization: Springfield Cares
Philanthropic Foundation: Darr Family Foundation
Philanthropic Business / Corporation: Hiland Dairy
Volunteer Fundraiser: Dr. Steve and Ann Grace
Philanthropist: The McQueary Family
Philanthropic Fundraising Professional: Cliff Davis, Ozarks Technical Community College
Youth Philanthropist: KickapooHigh School Chiefs Mentor Program

The Awards Committee comprised of representatives from nonprofits organizations of all sizes from the Springfield and surrounding area selected honorees.

Nominators must be a current AFP Ozarks chapter member or have their nomination endorsed by a current member. Winners received custom-made awards from Springfield Hot Glass.
