The sound of revving engines could be heard across north Springfield today.

That's due in large part to the many trucks on display at the 10th Annual 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals.

Hundreds of people came out to show their trucks off while others came by to see some of the big monster trucks face off.

Monster truck competitions actually got their start here in Missouri back in 1981, when a truck called "Bigfoot" crushed other cars at a competition in Columbia.

Today, participants say these events have grown into a famly-like atmosphere.

Jeffrey Cox of Bolivar says, "there are lost of people and you gt to know the people. It makes the type of thing where you see people yearly that you wouldn't see and make good friends."

The Four-Wheel Jamboree continues tomorrow from 9:00a.m. until 4:00p.m.
