SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State University's Interim President Clif Smart got his chance to speak to faculty and students at second of two public candidate open forums.

Smart answered questions about where he would take the school.

The presidential hopeful sees a bright future ahead.

"In five to 10 years, every high school student in Missouri is thinking about Missouri State, and so are the students in Tulsa, or Southern Illinois, or Little Rock, as we really grow our focus on teaching and research..." said Smart. "This is a great place to be, and [we] just need to tell our story better."

The other candidate for the position is Dr. Randy Dunn of Murray State University.

The board is hoping to make a decision by November 1.
