SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Women celebrated the "power of pink" Thursday during Missouri State University's Public Affairs Week.

The event inspires women to empower themselves through opportunities available in the community.

Local boutiques, businesses, charitable organizations and health and wellness services were available to ladies of all ages. They gathered at the plaster student union ballroom on campus.

Organizers say the event celebrates diversity.

"I think sometimes people don't realize that diversity is more than race," says Brittany Donnellan. "It includes sex and gender and things along those lines, so this is a celebration of females being a part of a diverse population that can really make a difference."

Public affairs week focuses on the theme of how a community's success is based on how well it recognizes and cultivates talents of all people.
