NEOSHO, MO.--- Crowder College applied for a grant in May of this year. Wednesday, the college was awarded $2.9 million of federal funding to benefit public safety courses.
The money will be used to fund both new programs and help expand existing programs. Students studying fire science, EMT, paramedic training, and law enforcement training will see the most out of the award. Representatives with Crowder College says this award in tow fold.
"It's not only helping people get training for careers, but it's also helping our community at the same time. Because we're training people to work in our communities so, that's important and that's why we wanted to apply for this grant," says Cindy Brown, Crowder College Director of Public Information.
Crowder College officials will decide how to distribute the grant money once they have it in their hands. They say some of the money could go to classroom materials and possibly scholarships.
