SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A downtown construction project along Campbell Avenue has been delayed again.

On Wednesday, the City of Springfield said the streetscape project on Campbell Avenue between Olive and Mill Streets won't be finished until September 8, weather permitting.

The closure, which began June 11, includes the construction of new sidewalks and lighting, in addition to water main renewal and sanitary sewer improvements.

This is the second delay for the project; it was originally expected to be finished by the end of July, then early August.

Detours have been posted via Olive Street, Boonville Avenue or Main Avenue, and Chestnut Expressway.

The City says the sidewalk in this area will also be closed along Campbell Avenue during the construction.

The project is funded through a Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant, the 1/4-Cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax, and the Clean Water Fund.
