Spence Critical of Gov. Nixon's Stance on Contraception

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Republican governor candidate Dave Spence says Jay Nixon sides with traditional Democrats when it comes to matters of conscience.

Speaking to an audience of Tea Party members in southwest Missouri, Spence lashed out at Nixon for his veto of the contraceptive health insurance exclusion bill.

"If you have a religious objection to contraception, he vetoed it. That is stomping on the constitution. That does not represent what Missouri is made up of. He sided with AFL-CIO, and Planned Parenthood -- and that is not who Missouri is."

Spence faces a four-way primary on Tuesday. Kansas City attorney Bill Randles is the other serious candidate on the ballot. The winner faces Jay Nixon in November.
