SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- City Utilities of Springfield holds a public hearing Thursday on a plan to raise water rates for the next three years.

The plan proposes increases beginning October of 2013, with additional increase in October 2014, and 2015. Each phase would mean an increase of about $3.00 per month for the average home water bill, according to figures released by CU.

Money raised by the increases are earmarked to pay for repairing and replacing the city's water main system.

The public hearing before the Citizens Advisory Committee is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2 at the Board Room of CU Headquarters at Central and Robberson.  If the committee approves the plan, it will go to the full CU Board and eventually to the City Council for formal approval.
