State Announces Rural Fire Department Grants to Battle Wildfires

On Wednesday, state conservation officials announced they're helping rural fire districts prepare to battle those kinds of fires.
The Missouri Department of
Conservation is now awarding grants up to $3,000 to about 180 fire rural
departments, including 30 in southwest
"These grants are one way the Conservation Department works with communities to improve the economy and quality of life," says Joe Garvey, Forestry Regional Supervisor, in a statement. "We certainly want to put every effort possible into guarding against the threat of wildfire."
Garvey says fire departments must match the funds, which are provided by the U.S. Forest Service and
That money will go toward firefighting gear designed for wildfires; that includes portable radio systems, helmets, specialized goggles and water pumps.
In all, the state is awarding $371,101 in matching grants this year. They'll be distributed through August.
