SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Being prepared is often the key to staying safe.
Children were able to learn the importance of safety and disaster preparedness with some help from the American Red Cross and "Pluggy" the robot Saturday.

Battlefield Mall hosted its annual Kidgits safe summer event which offered hands-on ways for kids and parents to learn about safety together.

Mall Guest Services Manager Alyson O'Conell said "We have events like this every month and today we have the Springfield Ffire Department teaching about fire prevention. We have the red cross and the robot and Chik-Fil-A and a hydration station and we're decorating visors and reusable water bottle holders."

The event was free for Kids Clubs Members. Kids can join the club for a $5 annual membership fee.
