JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Some cut backs in the Missouri Department of Transportation will mean fewer road projects around the state for the next couple years.
The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, for budget year 2013, consists smaller road re-surfacing type projects.
But, the budget dropped from an average of $1.2 billion to just $700 million.
To help with cutbacks the department has laid off nearly 20-percent of its employees statewide and is planning to close over 100 buildings.
MoDOT has saved about $175 million.
