Traffic Signal Updates Planned for Intersections in Nixa, Ozark

By: Edited News Release, MoDOT
Updated: July 6, 2012

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. -- A project to upgrade traffic signals at four intersections in Ozark and Nixa is scheduled to begin Monday, July 16.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says most lane closings will occur at night at each intersection.

The prime contractor of the total $458,000 project is Hartman Construction of Springfield; completion is expected by December.

Once work starts at an intersection, it will take about 30 days to complete.

Here's the list:

-Work begins first at Jackson Street (Route 14) and Route NN in Ozark: The wire-suspended traffic signals will be replaced with new mast arm-style signals. In addition, the left-turn and right-turn lanes on Route NN approaching Jackson Street will be lengthened. The Jackson Street/Route NN project is scheduled for completion by mid-August.

-Route 160/13 at Route AA north of Nixa: Install "Red Light Ahead" advanced warning signs along the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 160/13 approaching Route AA. The warning signs will begin flashing a few seconds before the traffic signal turns red, alerting drivers on Route 160/13 that they need to slow down and stop.

-Route 160/13 at South Street in Nixa: Install new traffic signals to replace the existing span-wire signals.

-Route 14 at Main Street in Nixa: Install new traffic signals to replace the existing span-wire signals.

-Also, sidewalks at Route 14 and Main Street will be rebuilt and new sidewalk ramps will be built under federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Most of the work at the intersections will be completed at night. Daytime work is possible, with only brief lane closings allowed when traffic is lighter. Drivers are urged to slow-down and be alert for crews and equipment close to traffic.

Comments

We welcome the improvements. However, they need to do something different with the drain on the southwest side of main street because the small drain hole that is there now continues to back up every time it rains which leaves an unfavorable amout of water to that area. This also creates in the winter a large amout of drainage from the snow not to run off. This has been said before when I have called that this is something that would be fixed. There should be something that can be fixed when the handicap sidewalks are replaced. Included in this request who can tell us about the fire hydrant in this area?
