No Special Session in Missouri to Tackle Affordable Care Act

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- It appears there will not be a special session to deal with changes to Missouri laws brought about by the national health care plan.

State Senator Brad Lager of Maryville called Thursday for the legislature to reconvene and take formal votes on issues such as Medicaid expansion and the set up of health insurance exchanges.

Friday, Speaker of the House Steven Tilley issued a statement saying he would not support the calling of a special legislative session.

Tilley said in the statement that a special session would be costly and would invite political grandstanding and filibustering in the state Senate on contentious issues.
