JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Despite mixed signals on the national economy, we're confident things are going to get better for us.

The Consumer Confidence Index pulled out of a five-month slide in figures announced today by the ConsumerReportsNationalResearchCenter. More than 53 percent say things are looking up.

The research also finds that fewer of us are having financial problems, and we're also getting out and buying things, or making plans to make large purchases in the weeks or months ahead.

According to Consumer Reports, "the sharp rise in consumer sentiment, which jumped to its highest level since October 2008 (53.1 from 47.5 the previous month), saw gains among households earning less than $50,000 (+5.5 pts) as well as households earning $100,000 or more (+7.7 pts)."
