But there's a new trend in wedding photography that's much more candid. In fact, it's so candid that wedding photographers have become more like flies on the wall so they can catch the true moments of your big day.
Every bride agrees that besides the dress, the photographs are the most important aspect of the wedding day.
"Wedding pictures are what you have to remember at the end of the day," says Shann Swift.
Veteran photographer Shann Swift says that the hottest trend in wedding photography is photojournalism.
"People don't want posed. It's nice to have the family pictures, but I don't feel like it captures personality or special moments. We really wanted pictures where we weren't looking straight at the camera or we were looking at each other, or talking with our families or exchanging vows."
Swift says he's like a fly on the wall, capturing the emotions and excitement of the day.
"I want to tell their story of the wedding day from the beginning to end. Getting ready to first look til they are running under the sparklers to the car on the way to the honeymoon."
He clicks snapshots that the couple may not even be aware of until after the hubbub of the wedding is over.
To some brides, pictures will literally be all they save from their big day.
