The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed new standards for emissions of carbon dioxide from power generating facilities.
Barry Hart with the Association of
Missouri Electric Cooperatives tells KWOS Radio in
"There currently in the country is no system that allows existing coal plants and new coal plants to achieve this standard that they're proposing."
Hart says the regulations would effectively do away with coal-fired electric plants.
"That's where the real sky-rocket bills can occur."
Hart's association is spearheading an email campaign to have its members tell the EPA to stop the implementation of its new regulations. The comment period ends June 25th.
