Springfield Splits Series With Travs

(Springfield, MO)--The Springfield Cardinals moved into sole possession of second place in the Texas League.

But they remain two and a half games behind Tulsa in the first half race for a playoff spot.

Springfield announcing Wednesday that prospect pitcher Carlos Martinez will make his first Double AA start Friday.

The Cards wrapping up their series with Arkansas Wednesday night.

And the Travs would score in the first, Ryan Mount grounds to first, Chris Swauger with the out, then home, but Jean Segura scores it's 1-nothing.

It was 2-nothing in the third when Springfield cuts that lead in half, Jose Garcia fresh off the disabled list with the homer to left, a solo shot it's 2-1.

Springfield making history in the fifth, Mount with the fly ball to short left, Greg Garcia with the catch, one out, to Kolten Wong at second, two outs, to first, a wide throw, but Travis Tartamella is backing up, the throw back to second, out, that's Springfield's first ever triple play.

But Arkansas not impressed in the sixth, Casey Haerther takes this deep to left center, off the top of the wall, that's a two run homer, 4-one.

And Arkansas wins 6-one.
