(Springfield, MO)--The major league baseball draft ended Wednesday afternoon, and Missouri State second baseman Kevin Medrano joins Pierce Johnson in the only Bears chosen.

The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Medrano in the 18th round, he was the 573rd person picked.

Medrano is the only Missouri Valley player to earn first team All-Valley honors in each of his four years.

He hit a team high .327 this season with 12 stolen bases and was named to the All-Defensive team.

The Lee's Summit product ranks second all-time at Missouri State in hits, and leads the all-time list in singles.

The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him last year in the 14th round, coming back to Missouri State for his senior season cost him four rounds, but he says a trip to the NCAA tournament was worth it.

"To be a part of our senior campaign here at Missouri State was phenomenal," said Diamondback draftee Kevin Medrano. "Thoughout my four years here we were not able to make a regional.  I'm glad I was a part of that. They told me they were excited they got me.  And I feel the same way, I'm excited to be a Diamondback."
