(Springfield) -- A lot of moms celebrated Mother's Day a day early by attending "The Largest Baby Shower on the Planet. The event is sponsored by the Springfield Chapter of "Newborns in Need", a non-profit that takes care of sick and needy babies.
Volunteers provide care necessities to local agencies and hospitals serving premature, ill, or impoverished newborns.
People were asked to bring donations of new baby blankets, sleepers, diapers, socks, bibs, and other things babys may need..
Volunteers say the need right now is great.
"We service over 700 families a month that has more than doubled since last year- this event helps us continue our efforts- without the donations we arent able to provide for the community" said Amber Albert of Newborns in Need.
The event wrapped up around two today. But, there is a drop box all through the month of may at 712 west sunshine for people to bring by donations.
