Mayor's Declaration, Events Planned for 'Salvation Army Week'

(Springfield, MO) -- Next week will be declared 'Salvation Army Week' in Springfield.

Mayor Bob Stephens is expected to make the declaration Monday, May 14, at the Salvation Army's Family Thrift Store on S. Campbell Avenue.

National Salvation Army Week gives the local chapter a chance to give thanks to the community. 

Here's a list of local events from the Salvation Army:

Monday May 14th at 10 a.m.
NSAW Kick-Off Event
Family Thrift Store - 1737 S. Campbell Ave.
Mayor Bob Stephens will present a proclamation declaring it Salvation Army Week in Springfield. This event will take place at 10 a.m outside The Salvation Army's Family Thrift Store located at 1737 S. Campbell Ave. Major Norman Grainger will also thank the community for its continued support and social service clients will offer their testimony on how The Salvation Army has helped them change their lives. The Emergency Disaster Services canteen will also be on site serving coffee and doughnuts.

Tuesday May 15th
Doing the Most Good through Emergency Disaster Services
6 a.m. - 8 a.m.
Springfield police and fire stations
The Salvation Army will serve coffee & doughnuts to Springfield police officers and firefighters from its Emergency Disaster Services canteen beginning at 6 a.m. This is just a small way for The Salvation Army to say 'thank you' to those who everyday risk their lives to keep our community safe - especially during times of disaster or crisis.

Wednesday May 16th
Doing the Most Good through Emergency Social Services
9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
1707 W. Chestnut Expressway
Visit The Salvation Army's main location to learn more about its Emergency Social Services Department. During the last six months alone, more than 3,400 local households came to The Salvation Army's Emergency Food Pantry in need of assistance. Learn more about the Emergency Food Pantry as well as the other vital programs & services that help Ozarks residents every single day.

Thursday May 17th
Doing the Most Good with Donations
Noon
Millie's Turn of the Century Cafe - 313 S. Jefferson Ave.

Friday May 18th
Doing the Most Good with Community Support
Noon - 5 p.m.
The Salvation Army - 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway
Stop by and learn how community support allows The Salvation Army to continue doing the most good here in the Ozarks! In addition to information about our programs & services, guided building tours and refreshments will also be provided. Saturday May 19th
Doing the Most Good through Volunteers
9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Family Thrift Store - 1737 S. Campbell Ave.
Volunteers fulfill a vital role in helping The Salvation Army help others and their assistance is needed all year-long! Give back to our local community by signing up to volunteer during the Thrift Store Community Cleanup Event on Saturday May 19th. Experience first-hand how donations to The Salvation Army truly make an impact on those in need. This is not only a great volunteer opportunity for individuals but also for families, businesses and organizations. Sunday May 20th
Doing the Most Good through Worship & Spiritual Care
9:00 a.m. - Prayer Meetings
9:30 a.m. - Sunday School for all ages
11 a.m. - Worship Service
