(Joplin, MO) -- The process is underway to replace the tornado damaged East Middle School in Joplin.
Packets went out Monday seeking bids for site work, footings and utility extensions. Work will cover both the middle school and elementary school which will share the east campus. This is the first bid toward construction to replace schools lost in the May 22nd tornado.
Mike Johnson is the director of Buildings, Grounds and Transportation for Joplin Schools. He said, "You have to put footings in the ground to hold the building up - all that happens and all the sewer lines, electric underground before you actually see anything come out of the ground."
The school district will be seeking additional construction bids both for the east campus as well as the other school sites through June or July.
