Small Earthquake Felt Near Harrison, AR

(Harrison, AR) -- A small earthquake rattled northern Arkansas on Monday.

The US Geological Survey says the quake measured 2.2 in magnitude.

It happened just before 3:00 p.m.  The epicenter was about 20 miles northwest of Harrison, AR.  The USGS says it happened at a depth of about three miles.

Residents reported their homes shaking.

I'm a retired scientist living at Cotter AR, and I've built a seismometer that detects even distant quakes. This small quake registered on my instrument, and was also picked up by seismometers at Mountain Grove MO, and the Arkansas seismometers at Hobbs, Mtn. View and Batesville. The USGS map shows the epicenter northeast of Harrison, not northwest. It was right on the White River channel, under the lake
