(Waynesville, MO)--Authorities in Pulaski County say a man being held in the county jail apparently hung himself with a bed sheet early Sunday.

Sheriff J.B. King issued a news release Monday, saying the body of  Charles "Chuck" Sharnas, 53, of Crocker, was found shortly after 7:00 Sunday morning, hanging from a cell bunk.  An autopsy on the body is scheduled today in Springfield.   The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the death as an outside agency.

King says the death does appear to be a suicide.  There were no indications of any other foul play circumstances, the release said, and Sharnas' cellmate was asleep at the time and was unaware of the suicide attempt.

Sharnas had only been in the jail for three days at the time of his death. King says he was arrested on April 19, for possession of methamphetamine, and unlawful use of a firearm.  He was being held pending the posting of bond.
