Gov. Nixon Raising Large War Chest for Re-Election

(Jefferson City, MO) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has raised nearly $10 million for his campaign for governor, and still has about $6 million on hand.

Since January, Nixon has raised more than $1.7 million in contributions, according to reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission Monday.

The high dollar amounts of contributions and money on hand are considered unprecedented for six months out from the general election.

Nixon will face either St. Louis businessman Dave Spence or Kansas City pastor and consultant Bill Randles. Spence and Randles will compete for the Republican party's nomination in the August primary election.

Neither Spence nor Randles has filed their contribution figures yet. Candidates for statewide office are required to file quarterly financial statements by the end of business Monday.
