The search engine Google has become an unofficial record keeper of what we search for online, and therefore, what matters to us.

From a sultry songstress to a national tragedy to a couple of sleek gadgets, here's what the world cared about in 2011.

Apple's iPad 2 took the ten spot and peaked with searches in late February, two weeks before it hit stores.

Its creator, Steve Jobs, comes in next when people were curious about his passing in October.

At number eight is the Japanese tsunami and nuclear reactor disaster that rocked the island nation.

British singer-songwriter Adele came in next with the release of her second album.

A rumored Apple product, the iPhone 5 came in sixth. But as the world would soon find out in October, the iPhone was really known as the 4S.

The video game Battlefield 3 came in 5th. Casey Anthony in 4th and stuntman Ryan Dunn and his death in 3rd.

Second was Google's own product, Google Plus, a new entry into the social networking space in June.

And finally, number one was none other than Rebecca Black with the viral video for her song Friday.
