(Joplin, MO) -- Authorities in New Mexico say a businessman from Joplin is no longer a suspect in a series of deaths in New Mexico.

Police in Albuquerque have eliminated Ron Erwin as a suspect in the deaths of 11 women.

Bones of the women were discovered in 2009. All but one of those women were either a prostitute or a drug addict.

At one point, the investigation extended to Joplin when authorities searched Erwin's homes and businesses. He says the ordeal has been an absolute nightmare.

"(I feel)...a lot of relief. It has been a really difficult year for me, my family and friends. It is good to get on with life and not have this hanging over my head anymore," Erwin says.  "I have never harmed anyone anywhere. I spent thirty years here in retail dealing with people everyday. I stand by the way I have treated people all of my life nothing was any thing different when I was in Albuquerque and nothing will ever be."

Albuquerque police are not commenting on how Erwin became a suspect, only that he isn't one any longer.
