The Food and Drug Administration has approved wider use of the Allergen Lap Band stomach restricting device.
Allergen estimates an additional 26-million Americans will now be eligible for surgery.
The Lap Band restricts how much a person can eat and makes them feel full when eating less.
The FDA approval allows Allergen to market the device to people with a body mass index as low as 30 if they have at least one weight-related medical condition.
