In this first week of the new year, people may be struggling to keep their New Year's resolutions.  Some take the traditional road to meet their goals, like going to the gym, dieting or perhaps not smoking.  But others turn to alternative methods.

Reiki and Quantum touching techniques are two methods catching on in the Ozarks.  Reiki instructors in the Springfield area say their classes are filling up.  And while, to some, their methods may seem different or even strange, they say people who simply try touch healing have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Relaxation may be hard for many people caught up in the fast pace of their lives.  But energy therapists say it is that relaxed state that is essential in meeting your health goals for the new year.

"It's really important for that, to help you to relax to that deep state and then that's when the body's own innate intelligence can take over and heal itself," notes Brenda McCoy Lappin, an energy therapist who practices in Springfield.

For ten years, Brenda and her husband, Dave Lappin, have been practicing touch therapy which involves channeling energy between participants.  But the Lappins say the method only recently began to gain popularity.

"A lot of people are searching out alternative means to help themselves," Lappin says. "Because of the cost of health care and because of a lot of the side effects of traditional medicine, people are looking for something to compliment that just to help out."

The Lappins say both Reiki and Quantum touching have a range of benefits from pain management, to stress reduction, even to help you sleep at night.  And they say the medical community is catching on.

"Nurses have a system similar, but it's called healing touch, so this is just a different system, but it's all working on the same premise of what we call resonance and entrainment," Dave Lappin says.

For people who want to achieve the typical New Years wellness goals, the Lappins say touch therapy can help with that also.
The prescription may be simple, but these healers say reaching your goals is all about treating yourself well.
