BNSF to Sink Millions Into Track in SW Missouri

(Springfield, MO) -- Burlington Northern-Santa Fe is about to sink millions of dollars into replacing miles of track between Springfield and Fort Scott, Kansas, the railroad announced Monday.
More than 60,000 ties and 11.5 miles of track will be rehabbed in the next 6 weeks, the company said. About 150 workers will perform the upgrades. Rail will be replaced at the rate of about one mile per day.
In all, the company expects to spend about $9 million for the project. It's part of BNSF's plan to spend more than $100 billion to keep it's infrastructure around the country up to date .
