(Washington, DC) -- Timothy Geithner has been sworn in as the Secretary of the Treasury.
Geithner was sworn in by Vice President Biden shortly after winning approval by the U.S. Senate.
In comments before the ceremony, President Obama thanked those Senators who voted for his pick, calling this a time
when Geithner's service is "desperately needed."
Geithner's confirmation was not without controversy, however, as he admitted having some past tax problems.
That money, tens of thousands of dollars, has been repaid with interest.
Obama said it will take a Treasury Secretary who understands the problems the economy faces to move the country out of troubled financial times.
