(St. Louis) -- Business and political figures in Missouri are continuing to react following the decision by Senator Kit Bond to not run for re-election in 2010.
Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan released a statement Thursday stating, "Like Missourians everywhere, I am grateful for the many years of service Kit Bond has given to our state."
The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry offered their congratulations to the senior Senator, saying, quote, "he has been a true ally to the Missouri Chamber and the business community, and his contributions have improved the quality of life for all Missourians." Bond was first elected governor in 1973 and served two terms.
He was elected to the Senate in 1987 and is in his fourth term.
