Beebe To Propose Cigarette Tax Hike

(Little Rock, AR) -- Just a week before his State of the State address next Tuesday, ArkansasGovernor Mike Beebe told reporters Tuesday he'll be asking lawmakers to hike the state tax on cigarettes at least 50-cents a pack.
He told reporters he wants to use the money to fund a trauma system and other health needs in Arkansas.
Beebe says the cigarette tax hike would bring in about $71-million a year. He says $28-million could fund three trauma centers in the state.
