Nearly a Million Fisher Price Toys Recalled

Fisher-Price is recalling dozens of kinds of toys, including Dora, Elmo and Big Bird characters, because paint on the toys contains lead.
The company announced the worldwide recall Thursday. It involves toys made by a company in China and sold in the U.S. between May and August of this year. The recall was announced in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission after the company discovered the problem through an internal investigation, a company spokesman said.
The recall affects 967,000 plastic toys. A spokesman for Fisher-Price said the company was able to stop about two-thirds of those toys before they made it to stores.

The Fisher-Price recall closely follows another recall from toymaker RC2 Corp., which recalled more than 1-million wooden railroad toys and sets from the Thomas & Friends wooden train collection. The company cited lead paint on its products fro the recall. Those toys were also painted in China.
Fisher-Price said owners of a recalled toy can exchange it for a voucher for another product of the same value.
