Last month they were rushing to the rescue and tonight, they were rewarded for their efforts.
June flooding in the Fair Grove area kept emergency responders busy with water rescues like this one caught by KSFX/KOLR crews.
Now that things are drying out, community members say they wanted to congratulate workers for a job well done.
Hundreds of people were on hand as the Greene County Sheriff's Department, and the Fair Grove Police and Fire Departments were honored with a proclamation.
Rep. Shane Schoeller of the 139th District says, "somebody could cross across the line of traffic, hit me in the middle of traffic and it's those individuals we all turn to and depend on to save our lives."
Tonight's award ceremony conincided with the Fair Grove Community Ice Cream Social.
