Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is also remembering fallen service officers.
The Battlefield is taking part in national moment of remembrance.
Visitors today are encouraged to unite in a moment of reflection to honor citizens who died in service to our country or by act of terrorism.
Wilson's Creek superintendent Ted Hillmer says it's fitting to take the time to pause and reflect on the meaning of freedom at the Battlefield because of the Civil War battle that took place there in 1861.
That moment of remembrance will take place at 3:00 pm this afternoon.
