SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The city of Springfield saw its warmest March 15 on record Thursday.
The National Weather Service confirms a high of 81 degrees was reported around 3:30 p.m. That shattered the record 79 degrees reported in 1983.
West Plains also saw a record high of 80 degrees, one degree higher than the record set in 2012.
We'll look for a bit of a change as we move through the weekend. A front will drop into the area cooling temps as it does.
Temps Saturday will only rise into the 50s and 60s with a struggle to get out of the 40s by Sunday. Not only will temps cool, but a disturbance moving along the front, which should go stationary near the Missouri/Arkansas border, will increase our rain chances by late Saturday.
These chances will remain into a portion of Monday and may bring us a nice dose of rain. By next week, we will be seeing temps settling to near normal levels with additional rain chances both in the middle and end of the week.
